Sandstone Peak - Santa Monica

When I first came back to Los Angeles, driving from LAX, I cried at the sight of the leaden sky and the mountains, uninviting, dry - lifeless. That was ... four years ago. On that day, I was crying for other reasons, and my tears were what prevented me from seeing the beauty that was welcoming me home.

The sky is a more striking shade of blue against the Santa Monica mountains - famed for their steelhead trout and home of the Chumash tribe. Life was everywhere that Sunday, the colors of the wild flowers, the reach of the dry branches, and butterflies courting one another.
